Energy Giants Collaborate to Win Bids for Offshore Wind

GDF Suez and EDP Renewables signed an agreement with Neoen Maine to submit a proposal to the public tender for offshore wind power generation totaling 1 GW off the French coast. The offers will be assessed by the French government based on technical, financial, industrial, social, and environmental criteria. They must be submitted to the French Regulatory Commission of Energy by November 29, and a governmental decision is expected in 2014.

Neoen Marine, a subsidiary of the Neoen Group, brings developer experience to strengthen the territorial anchorage already laid down by the consortium. GDF Suez and EDP Renewables have experience in large-scale industrial projects, including 19 offshore wind power projects totaling around 5 GW.

The newly formed consortium will contribute to the development of offshore wind energy in France while also structuring the industrial sector. The partnership will also rely on Areva for the design and construction of the offshore wind turbines.
