South Africa’s First REIPPP Project Comes Online

The 75-MW PV plant in the Northern Cape was connected to South Africa’s national grid on September 6, marking the country’s first REIPPP project to be grid connected. Scatec Solar helped make the project operational three months ahead of schedule.

Immediately after the financial close was reached in November last year, the company commenced construction of the plant which consists of more than 312,000 solar panels mounted on 156 km of substructure, inverters, transformers, and a HV sub-station. The power from the PV plant will be sold through a 20-year PPA with Eskom, the national utility company.
