Mali’s director general of Energy of Mali (EDM), Amadou Diarra, resigned from his post. Diarra had only held the post since November 2018. Aa former banker, he was put in charge of the country’s state-run utility to aid in the process of clearing the debts the firm had amounted.

When Diarra was hired EDM had debt amounting to $516 million, and that amount was expected to increase by about $344 million at the end of the fiscal year of 2018.

His decision to resign followed the appointment of Sambou Wafue to the post of Board of Directors. Diarra said that Wague’s appointment violates article 58 of the Malian Constitution, which establishes an incompatibility between the functions of the administrator of Public Establishment and the Minister.
