The Tunisian Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies has launched a pre-qualification process for renewable projects in the country. The projects include the construction of solar power farms and wind power farms, with the combined capacity of 1,000 MW.

The call for pre-qualification launched last Friday by the government, relates to a solar power plant of 50 MW in the governorate of Tozeur, another of the same capacity in that of Sidi Bouzid. Another100 MW will also be installed in the governorate of Kairouan, the same capacity in Gafsa and 200 MW in Tatouine.

Regarding wind farm projects, 200 MW will be built at Jbel Abderrahmane in Nabeul governorate and 100 MW at Jbel Tbaga in Kebili governorate. The remaining 200 MW will be located in the localities proposed by the developers.

Shortlisted companies may submit their offers. The construction of infrastructure will be based on the model (BOO) under which the developer will build and operate the plant. Energy production will be transferred to the government under a previously signed power purchase agreement.
