A new investment scheme will be unveiled on February 18 in Somaliland to help raise funds for infrastructure projects across the country with a focus on its potential wind energy sector. Under the Somali Star Investments (SSI), social and economic infrastructure – which includes renewable energy and power generation – the country hopes to begin to build a stronger infrastructure system.

SSI plans on providing Islamic banking to push other products like mobile banking and online investment management tools. The financial mechanism also hopes to help PPPs get started in coordination with the government with the first priority to be the power sector, namely wind energy.

Project Director Sharmarke Jama said, "Investment in infrastructure is critical to our country's development in the short to long-term. The benefits are not just economic but will fundamentally change the lives of millions of people for the better. We are confident that we have the right products, the right projects and the right partners in place and we look forward to a brighter future with SSI."
