Guarantee Risk Solar, a Zimbabwean company, teamed up with South African Bushveld Energy (eXcess Africa) to set up three solar PV plants. The plants, once constructed, will have a combined capacity of 250 MW.
A 100 MW plant will be located in Goromonzi, another plant of 100 MW capacity will be located in Bulawayo, while Harare will house a 50 MW plant.
The implementation of this project will have a cost estimated by the partners at least $400 million. It will be done in successive phases until its completion.
"We have national disasters and climate events that are the result of climate change. So we need to change the way we produce electricity. There are also benefits to using the renewable, especially in terms of income. We want to allow the country to realize margins on the import of energy, better to turn it into an energy exporter," said George Beukes, Executive Director of eXcess Africa.
