Inverter Solutions Conquer Africa’s Extreme Climate Conditions

3W Power/AEG Power Solutions (AEG PS) completed a thermal type test on their TKS-C-ZA inverter cabin determining its capability to withstand the volatile African weather.

The inverter cabin which is structurally designed to house two inverters was designed and manufactured locally by 3W Power/AEG PS to endure the erratic weather patterns in South Africa. The inverter cabin is made of galvanized steel with thermally insulated side panels to ensure consistent operation in the hottest climes.

The container is strategically fitted with louvers to create an air flow to provide natural cooling. By controlling the temperature within the cabin, the inverters can operate within the scorching heat of an African desert which often peaks at 45°C, without requiring additional cooling. Testing the airflow inside the container resulted positively, proving that the container which is certified at to operate at 40°C ambient temperature could sustain its limit at 45°C.

“We started from the ground up and the team worked hard to ensure that we covered all aspects of the cabin to achieve the desired results. It was a challenging process, we struggled to the bitter end”, Trevor De Vries, Managing Director 3W Power South Africa, said.
